Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...and those of us holding the mascara wand.

After two decades of covering the beauty industry, I've come to learn what makes it so alluring. Finding the perfect shade of makeup to match your skin tone, adding a swipe of eyeliner to give your tired eyes a lift, discovering an innovative new product line, or indulging in a totally luxurious spa treatment. My experiences have been documented in magazines, newspapers and websites worldwide. I've tested newly formulated products in the lab, explored hair removal options, shopped for lipstick, added shine to my hair and succumbed to massage marathons--all in the name of beauty. I've written press releases, hosted makeover events and co-authored a Do-It-Yourself Beauty book (Alloy). On this blog, I write about products and services that I come across every day as well as those that have been provided by publicists or the companies that make them. Either way, I write what I think. I hope to share some of my insights--and bring you the latest, greatest beauty news right here. Join me in the quest to find all things pretty.

one case fits all

Every try to rummage through your makeup tote looking for a particular item? Isn't it amazing how much time it takes? And half the time, you can't even find what you're looking for.

The makers of UNII Palette have come up with a solution to your makeup mayhem. The innovative, re-usable, chic makeup case eliminates clutter with a green way of thinking. The UNII Palette lets you consolidate your makeup into one multi-brand palette that's refillable and customizable to meet your makeup needs.

UNII Cosmetics founder, Minna Ha, designed the palette in an artist's palette motif. You can “depot” your favorite makeup from its original containers, or buy refills and stash them in your UNII palette. Go to www.uniicosmetics.com to find instructional videos on ways to depot different brands. It's convenient and it saves waste associated with conventional packaging.

According to The Green Book by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas Kostigen, "If one in twenty-five women chose refillable eye shadow, more than 350,000 pounds of wasted cosmetics containers could be saved each year."

Each UNII Palette includes: a sleek, purse-friendly palette, several magnetic strips to keep makeup from sliding, a large full-sized mirror for makeup application, a movable thumb grip, and a tight, rubberized seal to prevent leaks. The UNII Palette comes in a range of colors including eggplant, pomegranate, twilight, lemongrass, snow and coal, and is available for purchase at www.uniicosmetics.com.
